WAP Solutions
If you are familiar with
building web pages and websites, it will not take you long to have
your first WAP pages up and running.
Next setup a quick demonstration. Download a WAP Simulator that you
can use on your PC, eg the WAP SDK from Nokia's
website.
Once that is running you can access some WAP sites - check the next
section for examples.
If you want try WAP access to your own information, the quickest way
is to install Infinite InterChange and get WAP access to your own
E-mail mailbox.
By default, Nokia's WAP SDK allows you to connect directly to a WML
Content server. However a real WAP handset will need a WAP gateway, so
your next step is to install a WAP Gateway.
Once you are confident all the parts are working, you can look at
developing your own WML pages.
If you have a real handset, you can take the last step, and have it
dial into your own server via NT RAS, or other appropriate dial-in
access.
When you are ready to think about launching WAP services to your users
and / or customers, you will need to ask yourself :
- Do we handle the dial-in access, or
leave to Mobile operator / ISP / etc ?
- Should we run our own WAP gateway ?
- What level of security do we need ?
- What levels of traffic should we
expect ?
